I'm agnostic to Harry Potter.

I have been provoked to write this entry.

I refuse to read ANY Harry Potter book.

I feel like a republican.

I've watched the movies, but i think it would be a good idea if i quit that as well...

I'm quitting potter cold turkey.

Furbies scared me. Very demonic. They were going to take over the world.
Anyways, just because you don't want to read Harry Potter, doesn't make you a republican. You need to think better of yourself.

Oh Chris....really?

Defining your own style should never be about denouncing or refusing anything. The only reason you sound like a republican is because you're saying no to somthing you simply don't know anything about. And I'm sorry, the movies really don't count. Lot's of people don't like Harry Potter...and there's certainly nothing non-conformist about hating books. In fact books are the embodyment of free thought aren't they? I mean whether you do or do not like Harry Potter is a moot issue, it comes down to a person's taste...which is what it should come down to...but I hardly think it should be made the symbol of conformity...that's just taking it unnecessarily far.

In short, please don't put one of my favorite writers in the same catagory as pogs and furbies. I think if you examine just exactly what this woman has managed to accomplish including and in addition to a well loved book series you'll see she may be entitled to a bit more credit than a pokemon.

Sorry, you know me...can't let you take out Rowling without something to say about it, Visit me so I can kick your ass properly!

Re: Oh Chris....really?

If you noticed, I did not put JK Rowling in the CATEGORY, I have nothing against the woman or any of her other works. But when I see the news media, (on my rare watching the news jaunts)(something which I also am shunning, yet occaisonally take in for informational value and seeing if my reasons for shunning it are still present) anyway on those jaunts, seeing an announcer talking about putting a lightningbolt on her face, in that psuedo, I'm a hip ole lady cause I can pretend to fall in with the hype too, that has gone too far. I'm not going to be one of the many.
I resent the commercialism of it and the fad aspect, not the quality of writing. I NEVER denounced it, never did i say and (this is in quotes so its still not me saying it "Harry Potter is the worst book ever!" No, I simply refuse to be brought into it. And as far as the movies, I am widening my cone of refusal to include those. I have never tried to interrupt your free will and disuade you to stop reading Harry Potter, I'm just tired of people telling me I SHOULD.

And anytime you wish to come back here and pretend you're kicking my ass as i'm beating yours thats fine by me sister.

All in all.

Re: Oh Chris....really?

"seeing an announcer talking about putting a lightningbolt on her face"

aww Chris...cosplay is fun! We should be rejoicing that it has finally come to the unenlightened...not saying it can't be taken too far though :-p

And if I tell you that you SHOULD and you MUST read the George rr Martin books, will that stop you from reading those as well? Judge books on your opinion of them, not on everyone telling you what to read. If you don't want to read them don't, but it shouldn't be because people are telling you to read them and you feel like being obstinate so you decide not to. Good books do occasionally get fans (doesn't happen often, but it can). And personally, any book that gets people to read who wouldn't normally do so should be celebrated. So in conclusion...there is no one forcing you to read the Harry Potter books, but you never know, you might actually enjoy them (and if you do read them you can still pretend to everyone else that you haven't read them ;-) but don't take your frustration at those annoying people out on the series).
